Executive Access

Sinayo Securities sees a need to bring the fund management industry, business and the political leadership together so that they can engage and influence policies and strategic decisions. We have a vast network and experience in the private and public sector to better service the Asset Management Industry.

Every quarter we set up forums or organise events where captains of industry and decision makers (private and public) will be engaged in thoughtful one-on-one conversations with asset managers. Sinayo has hosted dinner events with prominent people such as Patrice Motsepe.

Sinayo Securities hosts breakfasts and dinners both in Cape Town and Johannesburg for companies to present their financial results to shareholders and potential investors. One such company is Barloworld. Sinayo also organises one-on-one face time with these companies so that analysts can have exclusive time with them.

Event Driven Research

As a boutique broker, Sinayo believes that niche based, quality research can be achieved through strategic partnerships. These partnerships allow Sinayo to organise and host events that are unique to client’s needs. We are able to highlight key issues and constraints enabling clients to unlock investment opportunities. One such partnership is research house, Frost & Sullivan.

Together with Frost & Sullivan, Sinayo has organised and hosted a number of events and roadshows. Events have included insights into the renewable energy landscape, the ever prevalent water crises, our educational system that is under threat and the hot topic of block-chains and cryptocurrencies.

Sinayo, together with their partners, will continually look for topics and events that will be meaningful and provide investment opportunities to our clients.

Graduate training programme – Project Funda

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” –Nelson Mandela

Our purpose is to further black talent , particularly in research and leadership in the financial services industry; to deepen our talent and skills pool; to create positive experiences that will lead to improved engagement and retention; and to produce graduates that are team players for our company & clients.

Our programme will last two years and compose of four courses. Graduates will attended the courses listed below over a week each and thereafter return to their respective roles where they are either employed, working as interns or completing their studies. Graduates are sourced from our clients and from various Black Professional Forums. The programme consists of:

  1. Navigating Excel for Financial Models and Business ProcessesSinayo Securities
The course extensively focuses on the use of Excel processes, tools and functions which are used to build financial models as well as models that can be used in other business processes. It is the foundational course of the program in which the rest of the courses offered in the graduate program are built upon.
  2. Equity Markets and Equity Valuation for Company AnalystsSinayo Securities
Equity valuation is performed on historical and present data, but always with the goal of making financial forecasts. In this course the graduate will conduct company valuations and try predict probable price evolution; they will try make business performance projections and through financial modelling determine whether a company is over or under valued. With this knowledge, the graduates will individually give analyst presentations making a case for their recommendations. The course will be five days and will be presented by well-respected lecturer Chris Muller.
  3. Equity Portfolio Optimisation and Fund ManagementSinayo Securities
Portfolio optimization is the process of choosing the proportions of various assets to be held in a portfolio, in such a way as to make the portfolio better than any other according to some criterion. What makes this difficult is that investment is a forward looking activity, and thus the covariances of returns and risk levels must be forecast rather than observed. This course deals with these issues and allows the graduate to understand the underlying criteria and design an optimal portfolio. The course will be four days and will be presented by Chris Muller.
  4. Leadership and People SkillsSinayo Securities
Leadership can bring to mind a variety of images, but in this course graduates will learn that leaders set direction and help themselves and others to do the right thing to move forward. In order to do this they will learn to create an inspiring vision, and then learn how to motivate and inspire others to reach that vision. They will also learn to manage delivery of the vision, either directly or indirectly, and build and coach their teams to make them ever stronger. The focus will be on being leaders in the financial services industry. In order to be a leader, graduates need to learn various people skills so that they may understand themselves and moderate their responses so that they can build relationships of trust, respect and productive interactions. These one day courses will be held in conjunction with the four day courses.
  5. Hedge Funds: Design & Risk ManagementSinayo Securities
A hedge fund is an investment fund that pools capital from a limited number of accredited individual or institutional investors and invests in a variety of assets, often with complex portfolio construction and risk management techniques. Many hedge fund investment strategies aim to achieve a positive return on investment regardless of whether markets are rising or falling. This course will teach the graduates some of these complex constructions and risk management techniques. The course will be four days and will be presented by Chris Muller.
  6. Practical Expertise
Project Funda not only wants our graduates to have the theory on how the various aspects of the financial services industry works but to have the practical experience too. Sinayo Securities have formed various partnerships with individuals and companies to further expand the graduates knowledge and experience. This practical experience will take two forms:
  • A week’s visit to a company that will concentrate on some of the major aspects of running a financial services company. These will be held on three occasions over the two year period.
  • A one day excursion to a public listed company. This excursion will run in conjunction with the above week’s visit. This will allow the graduates to see the practical on the ground workings of their studies.

Pan African reach

Sinayo Securities sees a need to bring the fund management industry, business and the political leadership together so that they can engage and influence policies and strategic decisions. We have a vast network and experience in the private and public sector to better service the Asset Management Industry.

Sometimes the perception in Africa is that it is a difficult place to trade and in some cases this is true, however, undemanding valuations and solid financial results are creating encouraging signs. Further encouraging signs are the improvements in the political and institutional landscape across Africa.

Most African economies do not (yet) avail of a sizeable middle class who can afford substantial discretionary spending, in turn leading to difficulties for some businesses to achieve meaningful scale. Furthermore, discretionary income in Africa is mainly spent on mobile telecom services, while tourism remains the only meaningful export of a discretionary consumer product or service across Africa. But as the African middle class will expand in the years ahead, investors spotting success stories, especially in the African consumer discretionary sector early in the game should be handsomely rewarded. Sinayo recognise these opportunities and therefore, assist our clients to trade into these markets.

Sinayo Securities now offer execution in 11 African countries, namely; Botswana, BRVM, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe. Contact Ian Louw on 011 666 8467 for additional information on trading in Africa.
